I read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society a few months ago and absolutely loved it. In fact, it was probably one of my favorite reads of the year (and I read a lot so that's saying something!!). I liked the way the story was presented in letter form, and it gave me insight into an area of WWII that I had never heard about. The characters were very well developed and the story riveting.

Thanks for the reply Joyce! smile I really wish more members would use the boards, but most people just rely on the emails and never check the Forum, but please don't let that stop you!! I still believe it is a great tool for sharing ideas, information and expressing ourselves.

Well I know the Borders employee shared your sentiments, but I do wonder if I would enjoy it? With "Honeymoon With My Brother" I tended to skip the letters to their special "step Grandmother", but your comment on the book makes me think I may like it, because at first glance at the book in letter format I wasn't sure if I would like it.

It would be a could July Book suggestion, I believe it fits into the category of "summer reading" and certainly fits into the "Anything Goes" category.

I have discussed it with several people who read it and didn't hear a negative comment from any of them. It is a different format than we're used to, but I found it interesting hearing the different points of view. I think it would make an excellent discussion book.

I agree. I think maybe because I just wanted to get on with the main story that I found the recap and fill-ins a bit tedious. I'll remind everyone about the drawing soon.

I just finished reading "About Alice" by Lisa Genova - what a wonderful book! It's about a 50-year old Harvard professor of linguistics & cognitive language who is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's. It's about her dealing with it, her husband and kids dealing with it and everybody's differing viewpoints about what should be done.

It really got me thinking, which I imagine was part of the author's purpose.

We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver is very intersting, if anyone hasn't read it yet. It can be a tough read at the beginning, but I promise the last 50 pages makes getting there worth it!
