Hi Members,

I trust we are all starting to settle into the New Year, 2010! With the new year brings many changes to both Meetup.com and to our book club group, South Orange County Women's Book Club. I'll start with Meetup.com first and then sedge-way into the group changes:

Meetup.com has introduced a new format for the all meetups. Currently, it is displayed in the old format, but we are soon going to have to change to the new format, and I can elect to change the format to the new format at any time now, and plan to do so in the next few days.

There will no longer be the sidebar as we know it. The Tabs "Home, About, Calendar, Members, Polls", etc. will now be situated at the top of the page. The recent activity for the group (new members, new meetups, who has RSVP'd for meetups) will be prominently displayed on the main page (i.e. when you first login). I checked out the new format for the group for a few minutes, and I feel that the change will make it easier for members to navigate around the meetup pages, in this case socwbc.org which is our website name (URL) that is associated with Meetup.com.

Changes to our Book Club
I introduced a Book Selection Committee with 12 members who were invited to join, based on their time in the group, loyalty, availability, attendance and interest in being in the group. They are Joyce, who will chair this group for its first year, Liz, Kathy, Irene, Jen, Christine, Sara, Nicole, Diane, Jean, Janet and I. If you have books you would like to recommend, these are the members to bring your suggestions for book reads.

Liz has been and will continue to be the acting group leader for the Main Book Club meetings, not to be confused with the Classic Book Read. Liz will also be accepting dues, posting new meetups for the Book Reads, and be the organizer for the monthly Main Book Club.

My role as Organizer for the group is to provide overall direction for the group, help grow the group, manage membership, and administrative tasks.

I am so excited about these changes and about our Book Club hitting the year and half mark of being a Women's book club. The members are what make the book club such a great group, and I want to thank each of you for your participation in making this happen!
